Hi, we’re Becca and Izzy

We are two high school students who saw a problem in our community and decided to address it. Two in 5 students in the USA experience period poverty and the post-pandemic economy has only created more barriers to menstrual equity.

We started Equity.Period. as a project to support our classmates and neighboring schools, so that we could support the community and address a problem few would talk about. What began with a bake sale and word-of-mouth requests for pads and tampons has now grown to an official 501(c)3 supporting thousands of Kansas Citians. And this is only the beginning.

Our Goals

  • End the stigma around periods and menstruation. This natural bodily function is part of daily life, and it needs to be discussed without shame or mockery.

  • Provide period products to those who need them. By doing so, time, energy, and resources can shift from securing period products to pursuing educational, social, and professional goals.

  • Engage with elected officials. Period products should not be subject to tax. They should be considered necessities not luxury items.

Our Values

  • Addressing basic human needs is foundational to success.

  • Gender equality is a human right. One aspect of this is to make sure all who menstruate have equal access to education, work, and life.

  • Menstruation is an integral part of the human existence, and as such, should be free of shame and stigma.

Diversity, Equity & Inclusion

We believe fostering a diverse, equitable, and inclusive organization is essential for the success of Equity.Period. and its beneficiaries.

We recognize menstruation is an experience that's not limited to only cis-women and, as such, we provide period products to anyone in need. Equity is at the heart of our efforts. We address menstrual inequalities and fully acknowledge that by doing so we can positively impact educational, social, and professional disparities that persist within broader societal and economic constructs. We are committed to supporting all donors, volunteers, and recipients in this effort.

We encourage everyone to join us in creating an environment that is inclusive and respectful of all individuals. Small steps locally will make major impacts for years to come.
